Kevin recently took a moment to share his experience as a Community Lead at Impact Hub Baltimore.
My name is Kevin Staton and I’ve been a community lead for The Impact Hub for almost four months. I remember passing by the building before it was done and wondering what it would be, little did I know that a few months later I would visit the space and end up taking a tour. That tour would lead to me becoming a community lead, all because I checked the “I would like to join the team” box on the sign in. Even though I had no idea what a community lead was at the time I couldn’t be happier that I gave it a shot.
I felt a buzz the first time I visited Impact Hub that stuck with me so much that I felt the need to listen to what they had to say about the community lead position. Upon actually doing the work I learned why it is so important. Community leads help to give newcomers a welcoming greeting and information about the space, while also helping members feel comfortable and make lasting connections to others sharing the space. It’s the latter that I feel like I’ve contributed to the most as I love to get into conversations with members, learn what they do and share their cards and websites with others who have a shared interest. Being in this type of environment has had a great impact on my personal and professional growth as I have become even more comfortable with speaking to strangers than I already was and I’ve become more comfortable with sharing what I do with others as well.
What you’ll learn about being a community lead, member or even visitor at the Impact Hub is that it’s a great place for forward and outside of the box thinking people to meet. You’ll always find yourself in a good conversation about such a wide range of topics that you’ll never get complacent or bored. You are guaranteed to meet great people on a daily basis and if you are like me, and looking to expand your team with like-minded people you are sure to find it at the Hub. I’ve simply never had so much fun in a work environment in my life and I’m sure you will too!
We’re recruiting community leads for our next cohort, which begins in July. To join Kevin (and the rest of the team), get in touch today!
